Planning large diorama _Mil MI-24 1/35 Soviet–Afghan War

Hi! I bought an Trumpeter Mil MI-24 Hind in 1/35th scale and many aftermarkets through the past years.
I decided to build a diorama for this helicopter since this is a very large kit and it will require a cover to prevent dust to fall of, but I didn´t want to build an airfield base; so I came up with an idea: build an diorama in flying position…maybe crossing a river with mountains and a road nearby with two or three buildings.
For this diorama I also bought a Pickup with ZPU-23.
After some Google Earth research I found a cool location to represent at the diorama, so I transformed the google image to a 3d model at Blender (as follows). The base dimensions are aproximately 100cm x 60cm (39x23in), but i have so many questions about the process and the making of the diorama.

This Google Earth image is from Kunar River. Google Maps
I think that the base is too small for this composition and I´m strugling to properly plan the diorama. Also, the ZPU-23 is placed near the center of the image in gray color.
I’m open to suggestions, recommendations and tips about everything with this diorama will include.

Welcome to the forums! Ambitious project! Please do a work in progress on this build. One suggestion would be to do a forced perspective dio with that big 1/35 bird up top and much smaller scale buildings/terrain/vehicles below. Maybe HOtrain scale - but play around with that.

Here’s a good example of what I’m talking about - and this is only a 1/72 F-4

Regardless of what you decide I’m looking forward to your build!

That’s quite the undertaking. Looking forward to seeing the in progress on this one.

Thank you!
The forced perspective is one thing that i’ve never thought about and it´s a great idea! I´ll keep that in mind.
The idea to set it up in flying position came from this diorama build:

Also, I´ll be adding glass or acrylic as a cover to the base.
When I start the build of the helicopter, I´ll open a new topic and post the link here. But it might take a while.

Wow that is really well done. A low level pass through a ravine is quite believable and the figures add a lot. Best of luck on your project. Looking forward to following.
