Plamodel/Marusan Aichi E13 Jake FINISHED.

Ohhhhhhh… love her!!! Looking forward to more.

Lighting… lighting… lighting…

i look forward to seeing the topside green more properly…

seriously though, it looks like you’re not too far from the finish line here!

Ooopsie. Sorry Stick. Took the picture quickly with the phone. Not an Annie Liebowitz or an Ansel Adams to begin with.(Only famous photographers I can think of)

Next ones will be better!

Lol! No worries Beav. I’m just playing. How about Jimmy Olsen for a famous photographer?

Personally one one of my favorites was Robert Capa, but his best work was not composed at all. It just captured incredible moments.

I refuse to acknowledge a cub photographer of the Daily Planet as a “Famous Photographer”.

Capa, Rosenthal, Bourke-White all had great photos. The back stories are as interesting as the pictures.

The Jake is finished!!! I left it pretty and shiny with very little weathering…and because I took the mask off the canopy. I refuse to re-mask just to put on Matt Varnish. And mainly because this Donkey deserves to look pretty and it was an ugly build.

All in all, I am happy the way it turned out. It is a “turrible” model and would love to see some other company make one. Actually, wouldn’t mind another crack at this one again, knowing what to do and not to do.

Just one other thing I haven’t metioned in the former posts. The folding wings will split if you put them down in the locked and loaded position. So if anybody decides to make this model in the future the folding mechanisms will need to be filed and sanded down.

Sorry, technical issue…[:$]

Where’s the “Rising Sun” on the wings…Don’t ask!!

Why such crappy lighting? Don’t ask!!

Chipping effects courtesy of my VJ rust and chipping set…

It looks better in person…seriously. Trust me[;)]

Very little weathering on the bottom…just a few brush stroke of Tamiya “make-up”.

Looks good! Nice job finishing a tough kit.

You’re building character along with this Jake, Beav [;)]

I’ve got some Nichimo copies of Monogram kits, and the old Tamiya Pete biplane scout in 1/50. I’m always amused to see the engineering choices these kits show. On your Jake, I had to ask-why mold the front ends of the floats separately? Why not just mold left and right halves for each one? And how does the wing fold work? It looks like you pull the wing out, and then fold it, and slide it back in, when the wing is deployed.

Yup, she’s fighting you… but you’re fighting back… and winning… I think there are a few folks here who would have thrown this into a one way flight by now.

Keep up the good work!

Thanks RR. With building Revellogram and other cheap kits, a well-fitting, easy kit might kill me.[:)]

Thanks, Baron.

I don’t think character and my name have ever been used in the same sentence. Might be a first.

On the floats I think they were separate to load with weights. (I did, it’s a tail-dragger). They might of mention it in the instructions but I really don’t like to read.

The wings do fold and slide into the main part of the wing. The “tab” is thick and split my wing when I pushed it in to paint. That issue did not come up in pre-fit.

Which reminds me of another issue. You know those alignment pins inside the wing halfs, they were to long. When I glued the halves together with my Faller glue from Germany, which bonds really well, the pins melted through the wings. Never had that happen before.

Thank you, Stik!

It was perfect practice for a Mafia GB!

Like I mentioned earlier, if my small stash was not becoming medium-sized, I wouldn’t mind having another crack at the Jake.

Oh wow, the finish looks good! And the canopy must have been a pain to mask.

Ack, about the other issues… I had assumed the wing joints slide up into the wings. That’s crazy that the paint made them too thick to fit!

My hat’s off to you for finishing her instead of flinging her into the wall…

Thanks, Gamera. The canopy wasn’t that hard to mask, just a bunch of rectangles. I see why people buy AM masks,I just hate masking.

The joints didn’t fit before I painted. After handpainting the joints, they definitly don’t fit. VJ model air is not good for hand brushing.[:)]
