"Pits" and Pieces!!

hi fellows, i’ve been easin’ through some cockpit detailing lately and thought i’d share my progress with you nice gents (and ladies). Some of these are in GBs so they are reruns for some of you. i’m trying to get a few kits to a certain “stage” of construction so i can spend several days doing my favorite part…PAINTING AND WEATHERING!!! i enjoy the other parts, but when i get to painting and weathering, i don’t want to stop!!LOL the F4U below will be “idealistically” factory fresh because its gonna have the glossy sea blue color. the 3 D stangs will be close to factory fresh too, but the others will be weathered up pretty good.

This is AM 1/48 SBD-3 OOB. this is the first AM kit i’ve tried and it is very nice.

This is a 1/48 Pro Modeller F4U-5N, the resin pit is from True Details. please excuse the resin dust on the pit floor…not very good housekeeping eh?LOL

This is a 1/48 AM F-6B OOB with the exception of some PE seatbelts.

This is 2 resin pits for Tamiya’s P-51D from True Details. i have an extra seat in there for another tamiya D stang as well, it will be OOB with the exception of the seat. the parts are still attached to there resin boots, as i find it easier to handle during painting.

This is a couple of pics of an Aires 1/48 resin and PE pit for a tamiya F4F Wildcat. i still have to “fluff” the seat belts a bit. the rest of the pit is done and i’m workin’ on getting it installed. it’ll all have to wait though, as i’m about to go watch the Tide play!!

[ROOOOOOOLLLLL TIDE…ROLL!!!1

Coming along nicely, saltydog !
The Dauntless interiors are so much fun to build & paint, aren’t they? Too bad not much can be seen when the fuselage is closed.
I like the lens on the F-6B’s camera. Is AM molding the kit in gray now? (I’m just so used to their O.D. plastic for their Allison Mustangs !)

What’s this about Tide? Are you doing laundry today?

Looking forard to the progress !

Amazingly well done, I’d say!

Hey, Chris -

Chris, I can see why you like painting & weathering - you’re darned good at it!
Great pix of great aircraft! Keep 'em coming!

Great looking pits all around. I especially like the look of the SBD-3 and F6 pits.

can’t add anything new other than to echo the above sentiments

Hiya Chris,
MAN those interiors ROCK… I especially like the Dauntless. MMMmmmm looks like your Stang is coming along quite well.
As for my Stang, lets just say I need to sit down and put some paint on her. DARN WEATHER…TOO NICE[:p][;)]
For the instrument panel on the Corsair, what did you use to highlight the instruments w/?? Very nicely done[:)]
Looking forward to seeing your completed builds.
Flaps up, Mike

Incredible work Chris… absolutely incredible[:O][:D] So much eyecandy…I’m sick to my stomach now.[:P]

ROOOLL TIDE…ROOOOLL TIDE…ROOOLLL TIDE!!!
we may have not played an evenly match opponent, but i’ve watched Bama stumble through such games in the past with mediocrisy.[V] not so tonight!!! a very impressive 48-17 over Utah State!!

thanks for all the kind words fellows!!

Pix LOL, i think you know what “Tide” i’m speaking of friend!![;)] yes, the F-6B was molded in gray, this is the first one i’ve assembled so i didn’t know any different. and yes, the SBD-3 pits are cool to detail up.

Butz the resin instrument panel was very light to begin with, so i sprayed it flat black, let it dry, then i took a drybrushed it. i wasn’t satisfied with the results, so i took a tooth pick and “knocked” the paint off the raised detail by running it round and round inside the bezels. when this was complete it looked fairly decent, so i took a white pencil and sharpened it real sharp, and lightly repeated the toothpick routine.LOL it turned out satisfactorily.

again, thanks fellows. later.

Outstanding Chris!!

Take care,
Frank

Great work Chris. All of them look amazing; you have a great skill with this hobby. I especially like the F4U…
