pigments vs chalk pastels

Greetings fellow modellers! Can someone please enlighten me about MIG pigments? Are they used the same way with chalk pastels?

They’re applied the same way, dry with a brush, to simulate streaking, fading, etc.

They can also be mixed with a carrier (alcohol, thinner, etc) and sprayed through your airbrush, but you should take extra care in cleaning it once you’re done, or use an old brush if you have one. I use my old Paasche H exclusively for weathering powders now.

Pigments, either MIG or MMP, are different from pastels and chalks because of the size of the particulates and the added binding agents. This allows the pigments to adhere to paint, especially flat paint, better then pastels or chalks.

I used pastels for more than 20 years, and I switched over to MMP weathering powders about a year ago. I haven’t even taken my pastels out of the drawer since then.

Thanks Jeff! Now I know. But unfortunately after a week of searching, it seems MMP nor MIG pigments are available here in Manila. I guess I’d just have to wait… patience is a trait we modellers possess.

Patience?..What do you mean, Patience? OH that’s why I spend so much time redoing paint jobs and such!!! No seriously I have no patience but I have learned to wait…sometimes.

Hi all,

For haveg testing both , I think pigment is great product but it’s a little bit expensive . All that to do the same thing as you could do with pastels chalk !!!

And seriously, Guys, when you model is finished ; who can say if your weathering is done with pigment or pastel ???
