piece of real aircraft?

anyone else think this is bizzare?

http://www.greatmodels.com/~smartcart/cgi/display.cgi?item_num=EDUR0004

do we get a PIECE of the REAL pilot that was flying this thing? pulling them out of a swamp to restore and put in a museum (or fly it yourself) is one thing but scavenging it for selling souvenires just sort of rubs me the wrong way.

Here’s something else to think about as well:

How do you know that the old scrap aluminum pieces are really that of an airplane, and not just some old farmer’s aluminum pot that got found buried in a dung-heap somewhere? I mean, it has no unique identifying marks of any kind, such as serial numbers, etc. [:-^]

Also, if you want a real piece of a real junk airplane, just go to an aircraft junkyard somewhere here in America, and carve a hunk off yourself. You can put it on your bedroom wall along with old license plates and road signs. [:D]

Or, get an old aluminum pot from your grandmother’s kitchen, dent it up with a hammer, bury it for a while in a compost heap until it gets green and nasty looking, and sell chunks of it yourself. I hear most younger scale modellers will buy just about nearly anything for just under $100.00. [;)]

Just ignore it if the reverse side of your FW-190 bit says Dr. pepper, that was common plane in WWII.

The Dr. Pepper or the FW-190? [D)]

Tom [C):-)]

“Excuse me sir, was that FW-190 made from all 23 original flavors?”

[:D]

I’d be very sceptical of the authenticity of that chunk of metal.

There’s always someone to buy this stuff who will take what is said about it on faith.

I remember when the Berlin Wall was yanked down, overnight everyone and his dog who had chunks of concrete and a can of spray paint were selling “genuine” pieces of the wall at often exorbitant prices (even more if the concrete had a rusty piece of rebar sticking out of it) and there were just as many people clamouring to pay those prices, no questions asked.

I’m skeptical, too, but if the scraps were authentic I think it’s kind of neat. I’d love to use a piece of a the real plane in a diorama, or some other creative part of the build.

anyone want to use an authentic piece of a 1990 nissan 240sx in a car diorama? i’ve got some authentic parts in a garage. also if you want, i have some authentic fluids on the floor of said garage and driveway pavement.

Well, if its going to be like my last Greatmodels order (it never showed and I called only to find out the order had been cancelled), or the current one (which I ordered 3 weeks ago and have not seen hide nor hair of) I think I will pass.

I am now officially an ex-Greatmodels customer.

Sounds like my experience with both Squardon.com and rare-planedetective.com.

With Squadron, the lady took the order, my credit card number, etc., and then shipped nothing.

With rare-planedetective.com, I found an item on his website, called to order it, and the owner pulled the old “Oh, I just sold that yesterday” routine, taking my name and number, promising to call me back in a couple of weeks.

In both cases, neither of these outfits actually got back with me to inform me one way or the other, Squadron offering to back-order or anything.

And then you hear them yelling how “The government is against the little guy”, who typically is the one with no customer service of any kind, and seeks to avoid it whenever they can. It seems if they can, they want to keep a “local garage sale” mentality for the most part, not considering how customer service is what made some very small businesses in America very large later on.

I wonder if they are trying to go the route of the sports card indrustry by offering a piece of “memorabilia” from a plane to help generate interest in the model.

My dentist is a friend and also a modeller. Somebody brought him once a big chunk (around 70 cm by 70 cm ) of a Do 217 that crashed in the Pyrenées during WW II ( for those who don’t know, Pyrenées are mountains between France and Spain, around 100 km from Toulouse ) He is very proud of his war trophy and put it in the room where he works, with a bill explaining everything, but I wonder if most people who go there for tooth care don’t think "Why does this guy goes on keeping that piece of crap here ? "

I could suggest him to send it to Eduard, but as far as I know, they don’t plan to make a Do 217

Well, I wouldn’t mind having a piece of an F-14, and I can prove I’m not Iranian to! I just want a gauge or something that says Grumman or Tomcat on it!

Might be worth it. 2 kits, 8 marking options, plus a pretty snazzy Knight’s Cross…then again, good luck ever trying to show it off without getting beat down.
