Hey Dice-Hasegawa makes a Thunderchief in 1/72 with the Memphis Belle II markings. Nice pics-I see the nose artist was uncomfortable with faces.
B6dan, I’m going to have a B-17 like you mentioned “9-0-9”, along with the B-24 Liberator “The Dragon and His Tail” showing up at my airport I work at on April 28, and 29th. Last year they would shut her down at night, and we were able to take some pretty awesome outside photos. I’m going to try and do so again this year…only with a digi this time!!!
Gary, I went to Millington for School back in the day, it’s a shame they ended up shutting that base down, but they also shut down El Toro and Tustin on me as well…it was a shame.[V]
Thanks Chris for the awesome photos!!! Can’t wait to see 'em up on your site!!!
kik36,
I went there myself for all of my initial electronics training back in 1984 -1985. It was kinda neat being stationed only 12 miles from home for about a year. The base is now an IRS accounting facility, if I remember correctly. The airstrip is still in use, although it’s mostly for private aircraft. They have a large airshow there once a year, with either the Blue Angels or the Thunderbirds making an appearance every year. I think that the commissary and the PX are still there also, as there is a Navy Reserve unit (SeaBees, I think) still there.
