Hey all! this is just what i slapped together today. Andrea’s figure painted with citadel/games workshop paints. assembly was ok, a gap or two that i know of, but we’re moving, so most of my stuff is packed up, including filler putty. it would have more colors on it but i have a limited set of colors. I’m pretty happy with how the highlighting came out, since this is the first time i’ve really tried it. so, i hope you enjoy, i have thick skin, so comments and criticisms and suggestions are welcome. sorry about the shoddy pictures also.
You need to see testing forums for posting pictures. [ img ] http:…[ img ] Without the spaces between the [ and img]. I typed them up and they look great. I know several figure painters that use those paints and they can get some pretty remarkable results. Once your done moving and settled I can’t wait to see what you could do with two days[:D]
I copied your code, and cleaned it up so it’d work. I’m posting your pics below.
Overall, not bad. I’d have gone a little lighter on the shadow work though, but otherwise, not bad. With acrylics, you need to layer progressively lighter or darker tones in concentric rings, with the darkest shadow, and the lightest highlight in the center of the rings. I only mentioned that because it seems that you’ve only got the one shadow tone. Another thing is that you can thin it out more, and use that as a mid shadow tone, and use more straight color as deep shadow. Actually, the work you did on the shield is a great example of what I’m talking about, but that’s not the place that really needed it.
Though, you can take my words with a certain grain of salt. I’m a dedicated oils painter, and my acrylic skills are nothing to brag about at all.
darn! i did it just like the section said, previewed it and it worked, but oh well. thanks, though for getting it for me! incidentally, plymonkey, thats what i tried doing. i used dark brown as a base, then a 50/50 mix of that brown with dark red, then dark red, then a 50/50 mix of the dark red with a normal red. my photography skills aren’t great, maybe it doesn’t come across that clearly, but thanks for the suggestion, i’ll try it. this model was my first time actually trying highlighting like this, but i’ll keep your comments in mind.
I’ll be honest. I suspected that you had, and that it just might not be coming across in the pics, but I went ahead and mentioned it. I do try to keep in mind that most of us aren’t photographers, when I comment on posted models, and that we spend our time and money on models and supplies, not 8 megapixel cameras and light arrays.[:D]
I’ll also reitterate that I have no skills with acrylics, so any tips, are just regurgitating what I know from people I know who are really good with them. Still good tips, but they don’t have the shine of my personal experience, so I like to be a little careful about how I put them out there.
It really is a pretty nice figure, all the same. You did just fine with it. Andrea does really nice work, though I find Pegaso’s poses are generally more interesting and detailed. Post Militaire used to make some really beautiful figures too.
What I did with your pics was I dumped your code, and replaced it with these html tags. [/img] at the end, and [img] at the front. The first one comes last, but I had to switch them around so that the code wouldn’t fucntion, which would allow you to see the tags. You put your URL in between. You have to use the brackets that are over the Enter key, and don’t forget to use the slash next to the right shift key (as seen in the first code example) to close the code.
actually, i read from another thread that safari, the apple browser, isn’t too forum friendly, so i have to use firefox to post photos. i posted on the scifi forum just fine like that. thanks again.
