Photoetch Question

Hey guys I got a quick question regarding photoetch…

Whenever you attach the instrument panel to the film, what is the best glue or method to attach the two pieces. I’ve read somewhere that its’ smart to paint the back of the film white so it shows through to the front, but what do you use to attach the film to the P.E.??

Thanks in advance.

I use Microscale Kristal Kleer to attach the film to the back of the photo etch dashboard after it has been painted. You have to paint back of the film white to make the instrument faces appear. If you line everything up very carefully you will end up with a very detail dashboard that would be very hard to duplicate by hand painting. If you do not paint the back of the film white you will only see the black instrument face but not the needles and numbers.

I’m sure someone will come along and correct me if I’m wrong.

I haven’t actually used the film and p.e. yet but, I believe I read somewhere to use white glue or Future. Both of these will also form a glass-like finish over the guage after it dries.

And you are correct as to hearing that you should paint the back-side of the film. That, I have read also.

I glue the PE, if it’s pre-painted, or Acetate piece with the Instruments to the kit IP (properly thinned) using QuickSet Epoxy. As noted, the back of the Acetate should be painted white first. I use Future to attach the front of the IP, making sure the openings all line up properly with the instrument graphics.
