Phoenix missile help

Just finishing the payload for my Tomcat for the GB. Is the Phoenix missile open at the rear ? or is there some sort of cover for the exhaust - that is blown out on firing ?

I found a site with a picture of a phoenix on its rail. It looks like there’s a conical cap fitted to the end of the missile. Try here: http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/munitions/aim-54-pics.htm

The exhaust of the Phoenix was six inches deep before it was closed off and only about 12 inches of the center was like that, the out 12 inches or so was flush with the back end of the missile. When viewed from the rear it looked like a donut with a small white exhuast tube at the seven oclock position (as viewed from the rear). The color of the exhauast area was a medium brown with the center exhuast port cover a slightly lighter brown. The white tube was an “electrolite” exhuast port, i.e. a battery acid exhaust port.

The radome was an off white color, i.e. a dirty white color and was never “radome tan”, and had a small silver tip. Depending on which version you are doing it was either white (AIM-54A) or dark ghost grey (AIM-54C and C+) with a yellow stripe around the front and rear of the warhead section and a brown stripe around the front and rear of the motor section (for inert missiles use blue strips).

Thanks for that. I should be able to replicate the exhaust port using tube from an empty biro.
