Philipines question

If perhaps say, an american M3 was knocked out in bataan, would they take all the guns, including the 37mm out of it? or would they just ‘borrow’ the MG’s and leave it there by the side of the road…I know they did for a fact scavenge MG’s because when pilots were grounded, they were assigned into ad-hoc heavy mg groups with their planes .50 cals, so would they borrow the 37mm from a tank?

Also did they use the normal jerry can like they had in europe?
Oh yeah it is Academy’s M3 honey, only an american version, but I will have to mark it up for philipines, howver, i do know they were used here because there are markings for a captured one in manila 1943…

Doubt the 37mm gun would have been removed, since the only way the could move it around with them would be to carry it along with its ammo, If they had the chance, they probably would have to destroy the breech mechanism and ammo to prevent use. MG’s would have been taken

Thanks for the info, i think that the breech mechanism–due to lack of info on the assembly of it, will be a bit mangled, perhaps they set off a round in it, with out letting it leave the chamber…i think that they would take the radio also?

Anything that couldn’t be evacuated would be destroyed in place. Optics, guns, signal equipment, ammo and fuel for sure. Set all on fire if possible. You never want to help the enemy out if you can avoid it.[xx(]

Steve is right, whatever couldn’t be taken would be destroyed, if possible. Some were captured intact enough to be used by Japanese. There is a one photo of some in Squadron’s In Action book on the Stuart’s.
