phantom differences

berny-What is your opinion of the accuracy of the Revell/Germany F-4F/RF-4E, and the Revell/Monogram RF-4C?

In looking at photos of both birds, the horizontal stabs appear to be identical. Where on them are these slots visible?

The non slotted stab had a titanium leading edge where the slotted stab had the fixed slat installed as a part of the leading edge. From a distance it is hard to see. You would have to have a close up shot to see it. I’ll see if I can find any on line pictures of it for you.

Here are some pictures I took of the different stabs. The dark gray is the slotted stab and the light gray is the non slotted stab.

I haven’t built or seen the RF-4E or F-4F so I can’t comment on them. I have built their RF-4C and F-4E kits and all I can say is they are OK. I can’t say they are good or great because they aren’t. There are too many errors to list here (some would say I am a rivet counter when it comes to the F-4). If you want a detailed list of problems, let me know and I will send them by e mail.

It would be great to know to problems associated with the kit. Also would you heppen to know where I’d be able to get replacement stabs? I have the non-slotted stabs so I don’t want the rivet-counters to get on me for making an inaccurate model. My email is blinkiebirdman@yahoo.com

maybe if I sent in to revell for a replacement sprue for the E’s stabs/upper wings?

Let’s make sure we are talking the same scale. The ones I built were their 1/32 scale RF-4C and F-4E.

Hey Bern, I’d hate to bother you with a question that is so ambiguous, but here goes nothin’. What is the “best” F-4S/N out there right now?

Hasagawa makes the only F-4B/N on the market. Their F-4J and F-4S are also very good. All in 1/48 scale. For 1/32 scale the Tamiya F-4J is definately worth the money. I have seen AM parts to convert the F-4J to S standards. The F-4S slats were different than the slats used on the F-4E so you can’t take parts from an E and make a S.

Thanks Berny. I’ve been wanting to build Naval Reserve F-4 for a long time.

You’re right in assuming that I’m referring to the 1/32 scale.

Go ahead and send the list. I started kitbashing the 1/48 Monogram Showtime 100 F-4J with the Esci/Ertl F-4B/J because of accuracy issues between the kits and haven’t finished because of lack of time and current skill level. And yes,I used the profiles provided in Detail n Scale and other such books to match up panel lines. My email is flammage1@cox.net , Allen
