this is the Revell 1/32 RF-4C done in the markings of the Reno ANG 65-870 (my dads airframe). The decals are Airdocs, CAM, and kit decals. RBF flags are Eduard and lead foil, cockpit is scratch built and Wauldron insturment bezels, engine details are scratch, so are wheel well details, so are camera bays. Enough talk, here are the pics:
I like the Phantoms and you did a great job on it. I like the red tags and inlet covers. One comments though: it would be more realistic with a flat clear coat.
Your Phantom look phabulous! I’ve always had a sopht spot for the RF-4C and sure miss seeing the ANG Phantoms phlying around Reno (although the C-130 Hercules they phly now is cool too), but I’ve always had a soft spot for the RF4C.
I used to live in Zweibrucken Germany for many years and always loved the RF4 Phantom recon birds based there. I had a great view of the airfield from my 11th Grade History class back in 1980 and would always watch them take off and daydream… until being snapped back to reality when called upon by my teacher for not paying attention. Thanks all, I started this build in May, so it has been a long one. The insturment bezels were bought from Roll Models, I think they have an add that shows up in FSM or up on the website here. They have them in 1/24 down to 1/48 scale in several different sets. They also sell insturments, and plackards. You will need one of their punch sets though. I have their large punch set, and use it all the time. The RBF flags are lead foil from verlinden, with beading wire stringers run through a hole I put in with a sewing needle. Thanks for confirming what I remember from my dads aiorplane Berney, I thought it was semigloss. The pics I posted were a little shinney (I am a better modeler than photographer).
Most of everything was scratchbuilt here, except the little panel to the right of the front panel. I sanded all the detail off and started with a bare tub and built up from there. This is my first scratchbuilt pit, so I am proud of it. it has a few inacuracies, but is closer than the kit.
As for how it went together, not bad, their was alot of stuff added to make it more acurate, and detailed. The wheels are backwards, if you put em on the way its designed, their on backwards, the outside faces in so you have to drill and put them on right.
Thanks all for your kind words. this was definately a challenge and enjoyable.
Shell, sorry it took so long for a response, but had an air museum with my name on it waiting [:)]
It does have most of the stuff, it is mostly scratched. My dad is suposed to come look at it this weekend, I think hell like it. Thank you for the compliment, I am extremely proud of this one.
