Peterbilt Wrecker

I have just started building the AG Revell peterbilt wrecker and have a few mods in mind such as working doors and hinges on the sleeper & complete lighting. I am looking for how to suggestions and other mods. Has anyone else built this truck? I have also contacted Stepps towing asking for them to post more pics of there wrecker to get a better idea of the detail, NO LUCK.
thank you,

If you’re looking for hinges to open/close the doors, try the Dollhouse-section of your hobby-shop, they’ll have nice little hinges there.
My wife is going to mod a truck (not a wrecker) and has already baught enogh hinges to make all the doors (including those of the container) work [:)]

A very usefull tutorial indeed, however, the hinges used on trucks and trailers are more the “common door” style, or sometimes the “piano-hinges” style.

There’s a second hinge link on the page for door hinges, I haven’t looked at at too closely, though. I’ve made piano hinges using 3/32 (or smaller) Evergreen tubing cut in sections, with a wire hinge pin. They’re quite visible, though and you need some practice to make them look good.
Some Pete wrecker models can be seen at

and click on “My Model Trucks” for a list (I think he’s made three already…)

Model Car Garage has hinges specifically for trucks, they also have mud flap weights, and Kenworth and Peterbuilt badges. Here is their address:

I have that kit and I am waiting till I get REALLY good at building models before I attempt it. I would like to hinge some of the doors on the cargo box, complete with tools in the compartments, and have an extended sleeper.Best of luck D5gxray please post progress pics as you go along.Later on…
