Sorry to bug you, but is this similiar to the color plate you described to me for S33 in Tigers in Combat II?? Can’t tell if that’s green over gray or faded gray
I knew if I was annoying enough… Thanks. The other noticable difference is the lack of the Chinese Luck symbol on the front and sides. I guess this and what you said leads me to belive it started grey, possibly then added brown stripes and then just prior to Kursk, it was completely repainted yellow and given green or brown overspray and added the Chinese symbol. I think I will paint it yellow, leaving those hard to reach fender area’s grey (assuming they wouldn’t bother removing all that crud in there and paint that) and then give it the green overspray.
Looking at the plate is really hard to distinguish the true colors in my opinion, but just looking at it, and judging from the historical facts presented by Peridexion, I would lean toward his therory of the thin coat of yellow overspray on the gray. What do you think? Semper Fi, mike
I guess it depends on what time period
It does have a slight olive cast to it. I may tackle it because it seems to be a very different take on a familiar subject. Not sure about adding those Chinese symbols, though. The Tamiya kit has them on a tan background, which I assume is their interpretation on the base color. Archer, on the other hand has them as a bright yellow
Archer and Tamiya include it in their decals sets for S33. I will look and see what I can come up with
I think so. Tigers on the Eastern Front has a pic of Soretz getting an award for the 2000th kill for das Reich and the tank behind it has the symbol… Can’t see the turret, though. There are pics of S33 but you can’ see if it’s there (something is, but the picture is small and blurry) and there are pics of a Tiger with it, but you can’t see the turret number

pg. 115 of Tigers in the East has a closeup of S33 and there nothing on the left side. no divisional symbol like the early pics and no Chinese symbol. Probably safe to leave it off entirely

Unless you say the following sentence has proof to the contrary, I am doing S33, gray base, light yellow overspray creating an oliveish color, brown camo stripes, no Chinese symbol, das Reich emblem on front plate on machine gun side. Well, I appreciate all the help. I am going with the color plate you posted. Plan to experiment some before I do it to replicate that weird look.
please don’t put the chinese symbol on anything. its a joke! tamlya though out the years put decals to see how many would add them on there models. no german tank ever had chinese symbols remember they were the superior race. some one is probable not going to like me saying that. i’ve word on models for ever and looked at a crap load pic’s of german armor never seen that on a real tank but if anyone has a photo of it i’ll eat my hat.
Page 111 and 113 in Tigers on the Eastern Front clearly shows a Tiger with the exact symbol. [dinner]
