members here is my completed replica of 2nd lt. phillip rasmussen’s p-36a, credited for one victory during the attack, december 7, 1941. as in the weeks prior to the attack there were a great number of inspections i chose not to weather this bird.
the paints are model master enamels and acrylics, testor enamel and acrylics, tamiya acrylics, and a non hobby brand enamel. just to refresh this is special hobby’s 1/72 p-36a.
wow… my connection is really slow tonight… I posted but it timed out and I had to do this 3 times…
Anyway… Nice job on that aircraft Joe!!! and an interesting subject to model it from… I will have to read more about the young Lt… didn’t know a P-36 was in the kill list for the day…
Thanks for sharing!!!
P.S. better you than me tackling that NMF… silver and I aren’t on speaking terms on a fuselage…
Nice job on the little bird, fightnjoe ! The finish is realistically metallic. It looks like a mainstream, rather than limited-run kit. Bet you got to exercise your basic skills on the kit !
Well done !
paul, scott, mkhoot, rick, daniel, tho9900, richard, pix, dwight, dj, jeff, and rik thankyou all for your kind words.
paul this is kind of a confusing issue. some sources say this bird has two victories some say one. it just happened that the one i chose said one. one thing is certain, p-36’s did get in the air and did inflict some damage on japanese a/c.
mkhoot this is a good little kit but a beginner would have some issues with it. i had plenty of issues with it.
tho9900 the nmf was pretty easy on this one. just point and click. i used a bristle brush for the non hobby brand (wouldnt flow through the ab) and sprayed testors silver. was pleasantly suprised with the results. there were at least two p-36’s with kills that day. 2nd lt. harry winston brown is reported to have two victories also.
richard the decals were in the kit. along with a bit of history on it. this bird is also in p-40 detail and scale. lots of good pics in that book.
pix i was able to excercise more skills than i thought i had. at times this kit was a trying affair.
