When RBaer mentioned a pic that was posted a while back with German tankers playing with model tank I knew I had to do something with that.
I founder a 120MM Verlinden Panzerfurher. He was holding a map in the left hand and a pipe in the right. I modified the hands to be more open palmed, made new buttons for the tunic and pants and added shoe laces to the shoes. And of course… the StugIII.
You already know what the base will be[:D]

Thanks Bill. The painting of the fig will make or break this one. A lot more detail needed on a larger fig than I am use to doing. And there are precious few of the smaller ones I’ve done as well.

Ahhhhh Marc, so that was what the figure modifications were for that you mentioned over in the figgy forum. I have to say it looks pretty darn neat! A simply unique idea that should be a nice addition to the Peanut Butter series. [:D]

Thanks manny. I was thinking pea dot. That’s what it has on the box and I like the way it looks. While it will be tedious doing all the dots in all the different colors if I can pull if off it will look good I think. But… and there is always a but… I am not that well versed in figgy painting and I have already washed the 1st attempt at the face off and I am already a little afraid to try again. But of course I will.
Or what about just a pea dot tunic and solid pants. What would the pants be in that case, black or gray?
It was very commonn for the Germans to mix and match so any variation isw possible…might be easier for you to go with pea-dot pants and a black or grey tunic…pea-dot tanker-wraps were fairly rare but certainly seen worn by some SS units later in the war…sometimes there were one-piece jumpers in pea-dot as well…just remember, only the SS had the pea-pattern…various combinations:
Looking at your fig again…he apears to be in a winter reversible garment which to my knowledge never carried the pea-dot pattern…it was often grey on one side and white on the other…then there was the oak-leaf pattern w/ white on the reverse----for the Heer there was splinter and marsh patterns…
I threw away the box already but found this on the web. What I remembered as pea dot is not that at all. Sadly a commentary on my memory[:(]. I may go with the gray for simplicity but I really do like this one. What pattern is depicted in the box art?
