PBL Jeep Vignette

I started and finished this small vignette over the weekend. The tree and base were constructed Friday night. The jeep was constructed and the general paint was done on Saturday, and the final details and assembly were done today.

The groundwork is various Woodland Scenics products on top of dry wall spackle. The tree is floral wire covered in spackle with WS greenery. The paint is about 95% acrylics.

The jeep itself is from Academy, part of their 1/72 WW2 ground vehicles kit.

This was a fun little build, and it got me a little bit of practice on my groundwork and other skills useful when building dioramas. Enjoy…

Just a suggestion, get some better lighting. Your pictures came out a bit dark. Very Nice jeep for that scale. But you should add some mud and weathering to the tires.[:)] Did you build that tree or buy it[?] Because that tree looks great, it makes the jeep feel like it’s somewhere in Italy, in other words it adds realism.

Yeah, I built the tree. It’s floral wire and spackle.

Usually I have a few more lights, but I just didn’t use them this time. I might take some other pictures, the shadows really distract you on this one.

I thought about some more weathering, and I still may add some, but I was really going for a mid-summer 1944 France kind of setting. I was thinking the jeep was maybe just a little dusty, not really muddy or torn up yet. Also (probably b/c of the lighting) the jeep appears more weathered in person.

Thanks for the comments.

Very nice little scene!

The tree is very cool! I’ve seen that method described but never actuallly saw someone use it here–it looks like it came out pretty nice!

I think that the base itself–which looks like a tire tread–is sheer brilliance!!![#toast]

A relaxed figure would really superbly complete the scene!

Looks like a food jar lid to me[^]

Actuall, yes, the base is a lid to a jar of mayonaise. I have seen others use something similar, the lid from a paenut butter jar, which incidentally is what I think (could be wrong) is what PBL stands for: Peanut Butter Lid.

I guess it’s possible that I have created yet another acronym.

[tup]Hope to see more armor from you, your work is great. Working on any other armor?

I’m not working on any armor right now. This was a quick weekend prject. Me and a couple of other club members are going to start working on a 1/72 WW2 diorama together in the future, kind of a group build for our club, so I needed some practice. I do have a Tiger(P) that needs to be finished, so I may break it out in the next few weeks, but I haven’t decided yet.
