this summer i bought the MRC 1/35 Pavehawk kit and since then i’ve been looking for updates kit, pilots, etc, but i haven’t finished with my idea of the dio, maybe some of you have ideas[?].
i was thinking of showing the hawk hovering (still haven’t decided how to do it) above a seal team which are going to be picked up on board. They’re in the water and one of them is just 50 cms above the surface[:0], holded to the jungle penetrator. The questions are:
1.- how to put the hawk hovering above the water?
2.- in what possition to put the jungle penetrator, in the water? in the air with the seal? without the seal?..
3.- as the rotor surface is very big and the seals are just below the chopper, what to put in the empty areas of the water?
Too ambitious for me, hopefully someone else here has some ideas to help you out. I think the rotor wash effect on the water would be enough of a challenge without trying to figure out the rest.
Cool idea! For the rotors, have you thought about clear acetate with a mist of black sprayed to give a blurred rotor effect? Like LemonJello says, the water will be the tricky part.
There was some talk on the forum a while ago by people who were doing Blackhawk Down dioramas and there were some innovative ideas as to how to make the bird hover. Best idea seemed to be to use the fast ropes to hide a rod to support the model. Not sure how you’d do that with a PaveHawk, since the line on the winch is so much thinner.
try putting a magnet in the base of the dio and put a magnet in the pavehawk. the way this works is you get 2 north magnets or 2 south magnets and they repel each other. I learnt that in sicence class
Don’t worry about the “negative space” on the water’s surface where the SEAL’s aren’t. The main rotor downwash effect will activate that area plenty and could actually help the viewer focus in on the SEALs

Model Lover, do you really thinks that your way of hovering the hawk could work? if it does, it will be the most realistic way to do it, but it should be safe. I dont want to leave the hawk 5 cm above the floor and crashed the next second. [B)]

if you put it on magnets use the winch as a anchor… just a thought!!
there was a FSM issue were they showed how to make water with a scene with the astrounts and they had rotor wash there…idk which one it was…

I think a 1/35 Pavehawk is way too heavy to use magnets, ofcourse I can be wrong.
However, if it works (and that is a very big IF), than you will need more than one anchor to keep the heli in place, because if it shifts too far off the center of the magnetisme, it will crash.
Have look at those lilttle Revell kits (the jets are 1/144 and the prop planes are 1/72), those have 3 or 4 anchors coming together at the plane.
By the way ; you do know there is a hawk groupbuild going ?

Yes, i’m totally agree with you Dan[:D]. I think that the magnetic field would be very difficult solution to keep a bird of that weight[:(]. And with the anchors, if i put too many anchors, the hawk would seem and oil rig tighted to the seabed instead a flying machine, don’t you think so? I’m considering the posibility of hiding a steel bar as a support somewhere but…where can i attached it if we suppose the sikorsky is in the middle of the sea…[V](suggestion needed)
Maybe I can create the scene in a beach and try to hide the support with a palm three or something(i have seen some of them in other dios) but do you think the beach would be a potential extraction zone for a seal team?[?][xx(]

Basicly a GB is a bunch of people building something withing certain parameters (can be the same scale, subject, place, battle…whatever what has been agreed on), and along the line the participants share ideas, pictures and advise to one another.
