Pastels and Future as Filters

I’ve tried dot filtering acoupla times and didn’t have much success (once because I didn’t lay down an acrylic barrier) Anyway, a while back, I mused about using pastels and I think it was Bill who responded about needing a medium to apply them. Last night, I thought, what about Future??

I carried out some ‘speriments this morning (on some old models, of course) and the results look promising. While it doesn’t streak, it does add depth, which what I’ve read is the purpose of filters anyhow. The only problem seems to be I don’ have a shade of green to apply.

So do any weathering gurus see any problems with this? Anyone tried it before? Any potential problems?

Never tried specifically with pastels, but have used future to lay down a thinned acrylic paint colour. In essence, all you are creating is a tinted gloss coat. Only problem I can see if using this method on a larger scale is curing time. Also several layers of future might fill in recessed detail.

Btw, you can create green by combining yellow and blue, or black and yellow - though the latter will be more olive shade. To those two combinations, adding a little red will produce more earth tone.

I’d thought of yellow and blue but had no blue either. Black and yellow though, I had and they produced a decent shade of olive.
