Ok, here is the dio that has a pic in this year’s FSM’s GSM 2005.
Tamiya’s old Mobelwagen Quad Flak, Figures from the kit, Dragon Fallschimjager pt. II kit, Verlinden Normandy Farm House Ruin kit. Um, let’s see, what else…Italeri bicycle, a wagon wheel, rubble, vinyl shingles. This got me second place in the dio category at the Vancouver BC show a couple years ago. Enjoy!

Another great expression of rubble.
Too much to like to list it all, so I’ll hit the high points:
The two figures up top, having a smoke, adds a ton of personality to the overall scene. I really like dioramas that depict soldiers doing “human” things.
Rubble. I just can’t help it, I love rubble, especially when it’s done well. I never seem to add enough rubble to my ruins 
…and the detail in the third pic is just phenomenal.

Thanks guys! Drucifier, I like that 3rd pic too, one of my fav shots. Basically when I get to the weathering stages, it’s a three step process:
A wash: Consisting of a mix of burnt umber and black artist oils. I slather this everywhere. No filters, and no soaking up of extra wash. I do not gloss coat the whole vehicle prior, just to put on decals. I only add gloss to the areas where a decal would be. Then brush on dullcote over the decal when dry.
Let the wash dry for a few days, then I start drybrushing the hell out of everything. I pretty much use one colour for this, and it’s called sandstone, made by either Creamcoat, and Applebarrel. These are acryillic craft paints.
Pastels/Weathering powders. Here I mainly use black and whites. Use chalk pastels, not the wax kind. To save time, I bought one of those big Weekly Medication conatiners…the ones for the days of the week. I have an old coffee grinder at hand so I grind the pastels up into powder, and add them to the little containers. I start adding the pastels/powders here and there to show recesses, etc, and whites to accent.
Chipping - Here I just use a silver coloured pencil crayon, and go everywhere. For my 88 dio, I actually painted grey first, then yellow, and took a knife and scrapped off the yellow to reveal the grey underneath.
Apple Barrel, Delta Ceramcoat, Americana, all of those “little old lady” acrylics…I thought I was the only one who used those!
I love 'em for the ease of use, easy dilution, easy cleanup, and huge variety of colors…and when it’s all done, the model looks none the worse for it.

Skar, all of those acryillics are pretty easy to find, in Micheals craft stores, dollar stores, Walmart, etc. They come in a huge range of colors, and in big bottles and are very, very cheap. FolkArt is another brand too.

Yep,I`ve been usin em for quite sometime now, try Anitas Bark Brown for rust. The amount of colours is staggering!

Well I live in the great Lone Star State as well but Kelly answered it for me. He said “Micheals craft stores, dollar stores, Walmart” and I have never looked for modeling paint in these places, only the LHS. Good news thou, I live right next to a Micheals so I’ll go check it out. Thanks Guys. Oops I mean Thanks Y’ALL.
LOL Skar, you’ll be surprised at what you can find at Michaels in the way of modelling supplies and stuff to use. That statue I used in my little pak dio came from there! And if you get the flyers in the mail, they usually have a 40% off coupon every week.
Dorian, I came in second with this only because there was a guy there who had a dio of a bridge, half tracks, all done in winter. It was stunning!
And interestingly enough, I took like four dios to the Calgary show, including this one, and not one of my dios even placed. Except for my little pak dio, which I entered in the vignette/figure category, and that got me a second place. All of my dios were the “dirtiest” ones there…oh well, c’est la vie!
