Panzerkampfwagen V Panther "G" (1:35 DML "SmartKit")

Just finished this today for a forthcoming IPMS/USA review article. Typical DML Armor Fun to be had! Spent about 3 weeks on it, and enjoyed every bit of it. The kit is Out-Of-The-Box, airbrushed with Vallejo Model Air acrylics, and weathered with pastels, oils, and airbrushed acrylics. “Panther 435” was part of “Unknown Unit”, Balaton, 1945…Enjoy!

Excellent work on the Camo scheme!

Something ain’t right with that suspension. The drive sprocket relationship to the roadwheel(s) is too low. Are you sure you indexed the torsion bars correctly? The vision blocks are painted over as well.

Please don’t think I am being mean spirited, my comments are strictly constructive, but I have built a lot of Panthers, and researched them as well, I think you have a problem, especially for an IPMS review build. The suspension should look like this:

Unless this tank is purposely depicted with broken torsion bars…?

Steve

Very nice looking Panther, excellent weathering detail all the way around.

Aside from my agreeing with Steve, it’s a very nicely done vehicle. I like the tools and camo. How was the build? I’m guessing there were no major problems.

Steve, you’re right about the suspension…not sure what’s up there, I’m going to look into it? The periscope vision blocks aren’t painted over…I Futured the lenses, so maybe the light is reflecting strangely? I dunno.

Everything is nice, from the build all the way to be camo and weathering.

Beside what Steve has pointed out, I believe the numeral numbers need to blend more.

Ben

Very good looking camo scheme.

Hey, you fixed it!!! Great work!

Steve

Yeah…LOL. Turns out, at some point all of the roadwheels’ “arms” were pushed up past the “stop blocks” molded onto the hull…don’t know how? Anyways, I thought something wasn’t quite right either, but couldn’t figure out what. Thanks for pointing it out!

JK

Looks great, especially with the suspension corrected. One quick question tho, is the front weld seam on the glacis plate lined up with the side armor plates? I was looking over the directions for my Panther D Smart Kit, and realized that even in the photo directions, the weld seam is totally off there… can’t believe they would miss something like that.

Glad you were ble to fix it.
