I’m adding some grenadiers to my Kursk Panther D-- I’d like to go with reed green faded tunics as in Squadron ‘Panzergrenadiers in Action’ – looks like they have field grey pants-- Can someone advise how to achieve ‘reed green’ ? I’m going w/ a mix of forest green & khaki and its either too green or too khaki.–I’m using DML tank riders .
Do a image search on Google for; ““reed green” RAL 6013”, you will get several color swatches of more or less the same color, with minor variations. It looks quite similar to a faded olive drab. I don’t know of any manufacturer of this color in model paints. I would just mix up something that looks close, as there would be a considerable amount of latitude due to variations in dye lots, fabric differences, number of washings, fading, etc.
At the end of the day, that’s all you really need to know. I’ve never known anyone in the figure modeling community that got on anyone’s case about color tone, unless it was inarguably, just plain wrong. Figure modelers aren’t like aircraft and armor modelers can be sometimes. We don’t have the any totalitarian color police, and if we do, they aren’t taken seriously. You have a lot of room to play, and weathering/fading always provides an alibi. If it looks like the color in the Squadron/Signal book, it’ll pass muster at a show. If it looks right, then it is right.
