Panzer repairing facility?

WW2, any pics? I’m certain I’ll have to scratch build one, but on the outside chance…any kit makers made one?

Depends on what you are going for. Do you want to model a permant repair facility or a field maintenance facility? I have been gathering kits for the last few years to build a large dio of a field facility. DES made a kit of the large fries gantry which was used for turret removel and such. Tiger Model Designs made two kits of the Pilzner crane that could be attached to the turrets of tanks. Calibre35 has a conversion set for the Famo to build the crane version. At one time Italeri had a set of battlefield work shop tools complete with compressor, wielding torch, and other goodies. Finally there are numerous companies making figures of German mechanics.

Yes, I was thinking a fixed strucxture, as opposed to a field workshop. Have you links to these kits, or are they long out of print?

Be prepared to throw down some cash for this project. The Fries Gantry Crane alone is $150.

woof- That’s some serious dough! Maybe I’ll make a field-workshop instead…

The Friess gantry crane was a part of the field workshops … well atleast in the Tiger and Panther units.

The May 1999 issue of FSM has a pretty good article on a Panther field workshop, with a Fries gantry.

Italeri still has the field repair shop. kit number Item 550419
