Panzer Kampfwagen II

I just picked up a Tamiya Panzer II for the cheap at the LHS. I figure it’s a very old mold because I couldn’t beleive how cheap it was. Anyway this will be my first “real” peice of German armor. [I don’t count my unfinished 251 half track and my Motor Works Panzer III that I rebult/repainted into an AfrikaKorps vehicle. Looks soo much better and not like a toy now. Amazing what some paint and some items from the spares box can do!]
Anyway long story short i will be buliding an Afrika version and ANY assistance or info on this model or vehicle would be GREATLY appreciated!

This is a good, solid starter kit. The main problem is the tracks with their smooth inner surface and token guide tooth detail. There are a few details on the fenders that need to be replaced or at least updated. The fenders themselves have some weak tread detail on them.

Good luck on your kit.

Thanks! How bad are the fenders? I never would have noticed!lol I’m just now looking at pics on the net.

FSM did an upgrade article about 3 years ago for this kit. It inspired me to get back into modeling in general and armor modeling in particular. I put a lot of am parts on mine, including an Eduard PE set, Jordi Rubio barrel, and Friul drive sprockets and tracks. I also scratched some idler rims up, but I’d do it differently, if I did it again.

Anyway, it was a fun build and the results are in my sig photo below.

i am currently building the same model. I have decided to model mine on a 21st Pz Div machine. I will post some photos when I have done a little more.

Just like WPIW I replaced the barrel with a Jordio Rubio one and used a Eduard PE set, replaced the idler wheels and most importantly replaced the tracks with some Individual Links from DML (I’m keeping the model kasten ones for the DML 2C) The kit tracks are just terrible. Against my better judgement I am also going to scratchbuild an engine bay (well maybe).

I’m working on this one too. I also went with the Jordio Rubio barrel, the Eduard PE set, model kasten tracks, a tank workshop engine, and new drive sprockets. If you do a search on this kit on this website you can find some good info because a couple of us have asked questions about it.
