Hey
I’m going back to a model me and my dad did about 4 or 5 years ago (i’m 13 now) and cleaning it up some and painting it. Problem is, theres no decals for it in my box, and the tracks are on the model which if possible (I could leave them on) I would like to replace. Does anyone know where I can get these for a low cost??
Decals you can try looking for Archer or Bison sets with the different online sellers, they might be able to provide you a set for the Pz IV depending on which model/timeframe you’re looking at.
As far as the tracks, replacing them will set you back $30+ if you go the ModelKasten or Fruils route, not sure if anyone has vinyl type available for individual purchase or not.
Will is thirteen, and wants to resurrect an old model he and his dad built when he was 9 yrs old. Giving him suggestions about Echelon and Friulmodel isn’t probably gonna fly, dontcha think?
Will: If your model is 1/35 scale, contact me offsite. I’ll mail you a stack of unused decals. I’m sure you’ll find something that can be fitting for your project. I’ll include vinyl tracks for you too. I live in the USA so it’ll take a week or so to reach you.
If you want to clean it up well, get oven cleaner (talk to your mom). It can be dangerous to use because it can be caustic to your hands. However, if you spray it on your model, let it sit for about an hour, it will remove all the old paint. Wearing rubber gloves, rinse off the oven cleaner and go over the stubborn bits of paint with an old toothbrush.
Good on you Roy! The guy asked for low cost options, which there aren’t any when it comes to tracks, so he got his answer, in a friendly way, no harm done. You can get a set of decals though for around $10 depending, so the recommendation went out for what it was worth…he didn’t ask for freebies or donor replacements, he asked for low cost options. Beating us up for answering the guy’s question is hardly in the spirit of the site…would you have preferred that we simply ignored him because we didn’t have anything to give in this particular case and left it to languish? [;)] Can’t tell you how many times I’ve donated stuff out of the spares bin to folks in need of the odd bit here and there even posting it at my own (such as it is) expense no questions asked because some day someone might do the same for me, so I admire your willingness to step up and help the guy out. Just don’t bust us for also trying to help, eh? [:D]
WOW, Thanks T26. I love these Forums!!! It was unpainted, so I won’t be needing the paint removal (I have tried it before though). Thanks everyone else for the suggestions anyway!!!
They are quite inexpensive and can be had here for less than Aus$10 a set. BUT each link has two rather prominent ejector pin marks (and three sprue gates) on it and cleaning up 200+ of them might just drive one insane. [xx(] [yuck] [:)]
I will definitley post pics when its finished. I’m thinking of putting it in a snow dio, to cover up some of the ugly glue marks. I was suprised when I looked at it though, its not as bad as I thought it would be. The first coat of XF-63 went on yesterday, and i’ll try to get the second on today.
Thanks everyone for the suggestions
Will
