panzer IV mounted with an 88mm gun

I saw this in a HO model railroad magazine, and what it was, was a panzer chasis mounted with an 88mm gun. Did this ever happen?

I’m not sure about the panzer chassis, but they might have been mounted on a Tiger. At least I think so, not to sure where I heard it though. So I may be completley wrong. Sorry, I couldn’t have been more of a help.

The nashorn was mounted on a modified Pz III/IV chassis and used the same 88 as the Tiger II. Could that be what you are refering to.

Yes it did happen, with one vehicle, can’t find the photo at the moment. I believe it was captured when Berlin fell and was a makeshift arrangement, not something that was ever designed or produced as a variant.

yea i’ve never seen that chassis in the pic before. i wonder if it were one of them prototype chassis like the special vk one used for something like sturer emil. the text mentions the earlier prototypes based on a Pz Sf IVc chassis. never seen that either…

Michael Rinaldi also built a panzer IV mit 88mm last year and posted the build on the Missing Lynz Construcutve Comments page. Here’s a link to the finished product; looks pretty nice. Guy does excellent work.

I have a 1/87 Rocco minitanks of this one! I’m slowly working on it; not much detail, but a decent representation. It’s called a “Grille”.
