Panzer IV D early tail light question

Actually two questions. On the left rear fender there is a small rectangular fixture with 4 small “holes” in it. What color(s) would I paint the holes? On the right rear fender there is a more typical tail light. Again, what color(s) would I paint that one? None of my limited references give me a clear view. Thanks for the help.

Check this out.

Thanks Jean Michel. That pretty much covers the convoy light. Now I just need to figure out the other one.

BTW, the hooks look good![tup]

You’re welcome. Those links were originally posted by Kykeon. Good stuff.

The maple leaf looks especially good [;)]

I knew those shots would see some mileage here, it seems this question reappears every few months or so. Such a simple item, yet rather difficult to find a decent shot of the stupid thing!

The only pics I could find where on finished kits, and I didn’t want to use them as reference. Thanks a bunch for posting them. They’ve gone straight into my favorites.

The round light on the other fender has exactly the same light arrangement as the “normal” lenses on the convoy light. Top is red, bottom is orange. The plate on the convoy light is normally flipped up in the “normal” position and flipped down under blackout conditions. The round light on the right fender is its twin. [;)]

ANOTHER amazing post! Again relating to the Alan Pz II C I’m working on! Its in the painting stage and I was just wondering what color the four squares on the tail lights would be!! WOW! First the post by Svenne and now this! I read these posts back to back…what a coincidence and how fortuitous! Thanks buff for posting the question, Gun Tech for posting the photos, Kykeon for the original photo post and bill for the extra info!!

This place is amazing! I love it!

Thanks for the tip Bill. Those lights are just about all I have left to do before I finish.

Do you use the Tamiya “clear” colors for that? I used the clear green for my Dragon Jagdtiger clear periscopes and it looks a little strong, but on a non-transparent piece it should look good.

The Tamiya clear green is what I’m planning on using! Unless someone has a better way?

The Tamiya Clear acrylic line work well against a painted surface from my experience. I’ve also used their Clear Smoke for the convoy lights but like the green better and have switched to it. If you paint it dunkelgelb (or whatever color) first, then just put a very small amount into the depressions, it should produce a convincing appearance. Same thing with the Clear Red and Clear Orange. You can also thin it down with water if it goes on too heavy (or remove it altogether and try again for that matter).
