I’m in the process of building a diorama depicting a number of vehicles during a rest stop in the early days of Barbarossa. One of the vehicles is a Panzer II and I want to depict it refuelling. None of the reference materials I have show the fuel filler location. I think it may be on the top of the hull alongside the turret on the right hand side, but can’t be certain.
Can anyone help?
For interest sake, the other vehicles are a Tristar Panzer 38(t), a Dragon SdKfz 251/6 (oh the horror stories I could tell you about building that thing) and a Tamiya field kitchen.
I can’t seem to locate any photos of a Panzer II being refueled in any of my hundreds of books cluttering my den. I am reasonably sure I have located the fuel filler as being here on an Ausf F;
This is in-line with where the filler is located in Dragon’s Marder II kit, the only reference I can seem to find at the moment. The problem is that there are two of these ports. Are there two fuel tanks? The next question is how did they open? Are they hinged or what?
Thanks for your response and the diagram. I think you’re right and i doubt if there were two tanks. I’ll have to guess that there was a hinged cap and model that. Either that or I’ll have the 38(t) refuelling instead.
