I like to do weathering in oil paints. Does anyone know off hand a color mix to use to replicate German Panzer Grey RAL 7021? I think it is a mixture of black and grey, but not sure of percentage of each. I could go up and down from there for light and dark shades. I also know that it’s not an exact science since a lot of finishes were put on in the field under different means.
Thanks.
I assume you want to mix the Panzer Grey with oil paints, right? You can use Winsor & Newton Payne’s Grey straight from the tube, it’s a dead on match to my eye.
Panzer Grey is a dark blue-grey, so you won’t be able to mix it with just black and white. Payne’s Grey can be mixed from ultramarine blue and either black or sienna.
Thanks hypertex, that’s the info I was looking for. I like to do shading and weathering in oils since I can play with it before it dries. I’m not confident enough yet with the air brush to do the work I see in the magazine. Practice, practice, practice.
