Dragon kit built OOB. I added a couple of tools, chain and tow cable just for fun. Actually, the chain was added to cover a mistake I made. I drilled out two small holes that were not needed.

Harshman, I actually wanted to use a lighter backreound, but my white construction paper is trashed and I just didn’t feel like going to the store to buy one piece of paper. Laziness on my part.
Pvt Mutt, it’s really easy. All the dirt is pigment set with denatured alcohol.

I’ve only done one gray paint job so far and I covered it up with white wash. The Marder II D i’m working on now will be my first naked gray and that’s what I really was getting at.[:|]

Tony, if it’s any help, I made the faded grey mixing Tamiya German Grey with Deck Tan over the base of straight German Grey. I tried to make it with flat white on another model and it didn’t turn out as nice.

Damn. That is quite good! You’ve somehow managed to make a tiny tank look menacing… Its worn and just dark enough. Did you use clear varnishes/clear coats on this build? That’s just a perfect tone of grey… wow. The only thing is that I think the wheels could use a bit of wear so they would match the color of the lower hull (under the fenders). Beautifully done- the dark tone of the paint perfectly contrasts the lighter grain of the wood.

I used a gloss coat for the pinwash and decals, then a dullcoat before pigments. The gloss is Future thinned 50/50 with lacquer thinner and the dull is Testor Dullcoat thinned the same way.
With the wheels, I was originally going to use a ton of mud. At the last minute I decided against it, laziness again. So I left the wheels with less dirt, I figured they are moving and going through grass, dirt wouldn’t stick as much as it would on the hull. I might have figured wrong, but I like the contrast between the wheels and the lower hull.
Because of the lack of light-colored pigment on the model, its definitely a matter of personal opinion. You managed to pull off a great-looking dark finish. It has a peculiar authenticity to it, and looks great with or without muddy wheels.
An armored go-cart with teeth.[:@] A very nicely done wee beastie. I did one of their Ausf B kits. My wife kept refering to it as cute. I stopped trying correct her after I placed it in the display case next to the Tigers, Panthers, JSU-152. Heck, even a Matilda looks downright gargantuan next to these wee beasties.

It’s not very often I see a ‘perfect’ build but this ranks as one of them! I just love it! Flawless!
I built the Dragon Pz I Ausf B and had an absolute nightmare with problems (no kit issues but lets say there were some nasty setbacks, mostly my fault)!
I’d like to build this kit as the A variant is slightly better looking imo at least! At least next time I’ll know what NOT to do!
How did you find the road wheel assembly? I found it ‘tricky’!

Hinksy, the wheels were a little bit of a pain. It was stupidity on my part, I accidently glued about half of them in place before I was ready. I usually just glue them on enough to hold them, glue the suspension in place, set the model on a flat surface, then remove the wheels after the glue is set. I left the outer parts of the suspension off until everything was painted.
Here is eactly what I did for the paint. White primer, base of Tamiya German grey on top and Nato black on the bottom( because I was running out of the German grey). Then the fading was done by mixing German grey with deck tan. Future thinned 50/50 with lacquer thinner, decals, future again to protect the decals, oil pinwashes of burnt umber and raw umber, Testors dull coat thinner the same as future. Then different pigments set with denatured alcohol. Last step was going over random edges with a #2 pencil and rubbing it in with my finger. I tried to use lighter pigmants, I think most of the dirt is actually Mig brick dust and light dust.
I just ordered myself one today from discount models,I hope mine looks as good as yours does I will try some of your weathering methods on mine.
