i know that alot of panthers were captured during ww2. i read on a site that canada had captured some (or just 1?) i was wondering if anyone knew how many were captured, when, what they were painted like, and were they all panther Gs? or were there some As? i have a tamiya panther A and i thought it would be neat to paint it like a captured one.
i found this page that has a picture of a captured panther (G it appears) i think it was captured by canadains because it is a canadain site, but i’m not sure.

Check near the bottom of this page for a pic. of “Cuckoo” a Panther in Allied service. I think there might also be a color plate of a soviet Panther

i seen that site. were all captured panthers kept the same colors just with new markings? were allied divisions numbers put on them?
Typically, the captured armor didn’t last long enough to actually get markings other than the national insignia… The Russians were known for capturing tanks and using them till they broke down or were destroyed… Sometimes they pressed captured German mechanics into service to keep them maintained…
As far as I know, the US, Brits and Canadians only used captured armor in defensive and rear areas so they wouldn’t be mistaked for the enemy…
Most of the armor captured by the allies ended up in collection yards where they were eventually sent back for evaluation or destroyed.[;)]

France used some Panthers to fill out their armor inventory until the 1950’s. IIRC, they were painted green and had a national symbol on the front, with the shape of France in black, if I remember correctly.
Maybe a websearch will turn up more info.
Here is a captured Panther in British service:
I expect the same star would be on the glacias as well and possibly the top of the turret or engine deck. The name at the bottom of the turret, in front of the star is “Cuckoo”

As far as I know , Canada did not use captured Panthers. The British had one , the famous “Cuckoo” , the Russians employed them , like the French , and the Poles , captured and used one, in Warsaw , I think. Although I seen photo’s of a variety of vehicles , ranging from Kubelwagens , to Panzer II’s , halftracks , and a " de -gunned" Stug III ( employed , as an ARV) ,that were pressed into service. I think that most intact vehicles , were sent back , to be evaluated.

Further to my last , at Canadian Forces Base Borden , in Ontario , there is a Panther Ausf A . As well you can find a " Hetzer" ( that as far as I know , has been refurbished , to running order), and a " Wirbelwind" , AA tank. Plus numerous other AFV’s , and artillery pieces ,in the Worthington Tank Park , ( Worthington , the founder , of the Royal Canadian Armoured Corps) but sadly these vehicles , for the most part , are rusting hulks.
