Panther Late G gets some color .

I have finally began the painting and weathering of this long running project .
Much weathering detail left to go , I tried to imply this tank has gone through lots of dust and then through some brush after , (the scratching on the skirts).

I wasn’t too wild about the dark late war camo I did , it covered up all the detail .

They stand out better with a lighter color , so I went with a heavily dusted look .

Let me know what you think .

This first is a side view , ( the 2 in the 002 # is crooked and is coming off ) [B)]

That is a great weathering job. The toning down the dust does makes that camo look real real nice. Is the dust pastel, weathering powders or airbrush mist (or a combo)?

No I used my old standby ,… Tamiya Buff ,… thinned down 60 /40 with alky

I just lightly spray it on , then go over the camo " scratches " with the base camo colors with a toothpick broken and soaked with water first , then used to scratch the pattern in ,… just an experiment this time , but I kind of like the results so far

I use the same method with the buff, but I usually mist it straight out of the bottle. I will have to try the mix. I think it really is a nice way to tone down the scheme

Hey Spector,

That’s an outstanding Panther you’ve got there! I really like what you did with the fading and dust combined with the scratches. I do have a question for you and it’s probably a dumb one. I noticed that the barrel looks like it’s painted a red oxide. Is that picture just prior to you redoing the paint on the barrel, or is that the finished product?

Okieboy

Very convincing job Shawn. I can’t see a need to do much of anything else, you’ve gotten a realistic affect, and the overal workmanship is great. Semper Fi, mike

Red oxide or flat black only on the barrels was a common pratice at wars end , this is a very late war tank from the WIKING DIV .

Nice idea! it accomplishes it perfectly. The scratches in the dust from the brush look like … well they look like scratches in the dust from the brush. Thumbs up! Hope you don’t mind me copying your idea on this.
