Hey folks, I need some advice/help! The last time I built a model was 1987. Believe it or not, my badger aribrucs, compressor still work! And the dozens of jars of Tamiya paints are still usable!!
The last 1/25 tank kits I built were Tamiya’s (Tiger, Panther, Jagd Panther (when I was 16 - 1971!!!) - anyone know where I can find these, or if there offered under another company name?). I remember the kit treads came in links and we’re great looking when assembled.
Okay, to get to the point, I purchased the Academy 1/25 G panther. I have been happily re-learning my modeling skills, and taking my time building. I have just gotten to the point of dry fitting the wheels and treads (the kit supplied treads are vinyl two piece affairs).
I have been using “Panther in Action” and other old Squadron books for reference. First thing I noticed is the model tank seems to sit too low, then I realized I really hate the treads, they don’t hang right, don’t look correct.
I scavaged some individual link treads from an older Academy Panther kit, but they don’t fit over the drive sprokets on the “G” kit I’m building, and I don’t have access to the sprokets from the older Academy kit.
Here are my questions:
Does anyone make aftermarket tread links for the “G” Academy kit? (I could live with the kit treads, I was planning on making them look like they are coated with mud to hid their toy like quality).
Any hints as to how I can correct the “height” of the wheels? I was thnking of gluing them in placed, so they sit lower (making the tank sit higher), but simply don’t want to eyeball it. the road wheels all seem to sit way too low from the perspective of where the drive sprocket and rear idler wheel are positioned.
thanks for any help you can give!
