This is the kit I just finished for SMJ’s Big Cat Group Build. It’s the Cyber Hobby white box version of the Panther F. A pretty nice kit. I had to modify the sparetrack links so they would fit on the holder on the back and I added a coaxial mg42 to the turret other than that built straight from the box. I went for the look of a late war vehicle that was fairly factory fresh ( no chips or heavy scratches or heavy abuse) that has seen light or no combat or is on the way to the front. So the weathering was kept subtle, just dust and dirt and a little staining( grease and a liitle fuel spillage on the rear deck). Well here she is.
Very nice, I really like the camo scheme! Models were made to be built and not collected and I am glad to see this one here. I like the no chipping, just some simple dust & dirt but very well done.
David, you’ve done an excellent job on this subject. You know I like 'em down and dirty but the scenario you described here appears to have been accomplished. Beautiful camouflage job. The trackwork looks about 99% as I think there should be a wee bit 'o shiny on the guide horns comparable to the track/ground contact points.
That is one fine looking “CAT”. The paint finish is downright inspiring and the camo is great. Still one of my favorite vehicles and I can’t get enough at looking at what other people have been able to accomplish.[bow]
Those are the limited release kits that CyberHobby does that most everyone buys and hoards rather thhan ever building. Someday I’ll build one, as long as someone gives it to me free. [:-^]
The CH “white box” kits are one-run only special editions…and they mean it when they say that! As a result, some of the more popular/bizarre one-offs get snapped up quickly (like the Tiger I DAK) and then go for insane prices on eBay or similar since the laws of supply & demand inevitably kick in.
I only buy them if I’m going to build them but there’s always a bit of a risk involved since it’s not possible for them to be thoroughly reviewed like with a normal kit. CH usually ships out review samples 1-2 weeks before they actually start filling orders so at best you’ll only see a “what’s in the box” type of evaluation before they shut-down the order taking and then move people over to “Wait List” status. I have 6 of the “white box” in the stash and have built 1, the 251/23, and am very selective in which kits I pick up and have passed on several that just didn’t hold the interest for me.
