hey guys, here is my DML kursk panther D i am working on. i just got finished putting on the base coat and camo. the tracks aren’t even put together yet, and i still have other things to paint, just wanted to put a teaser pic up of whats to come. thanks for looking.
i really have to work on getting beter quality pics. i have it set to macro and the speed is on F8 for close ups, but the quality is really grainy.
Hey Roo, Good build so far–might want a little more camo on the rear of the turret side there though? It’s a bit sparse back there, dontcha think? [:-^]
This is so wierd…I was actually kicking around the idea of starting on that EXACT tank after my Hetzer! I don’t have a “D” in my collection. Hmmm…nah, probably not now! I’ll get my “D-buzz” off of yours! [swg]
[tup]Hey man…that looks pretty kool…I’m impressed! Great job.
I actually think that your “Less is more” camo approach on this one adds something that would be lacking if were “Too Busy” …it adds a bit of interest for me.
doog, there actually is some camo on that rear portion, but its right on the other side of the weld and lip. kinda hard to see it from this angle. i’ll make sure to get some better shots when i get a little futher.
TJ, thanks for the kind words. yeah i didn’t want to make it too busy as to take away from the model. i just followed some color plates that i have of the kursk panther d’s. this one will also be relativatly clean and new as this was the introduction of the panthers, and most didn’t make it very far. not too much battle damage, but just a little wear on the parts.
eric, i didn’t have this kit in the stash when i started the GB, i’m still on the marder III. just a little bit behind as the kit really gets me fustrated. but i could always present this for the GB also. why not two tanks? hehe. i’ll present this one in the GB, but i’ll claim my badge with the marder since that is the one i have posted.
thanks for looking guys, i’ll try to finish this one up within the week and get some pics up.
exactly eric. i bought this after the GB started, and have been fooling around with it when i was too aggravated to work on the marder. i thought about asking to switch to the panther, but i did that once already with the italeri GB, so i just stuck with the marder. it is the DML kursk panther D, and i would like to post it in the kursk GB, but i really don’t want to claim the badge for this kit, as i would never finish the marder. so if you want, you could put me down for both of these, and i’ll clain the badge when i am finished with BOTH of them, hehe. motivation.
Wow Chris, how did you go from not gluing the hull top to bottom yesterday to full on paint job with camo?!? However you did it, it looks great! Can’t wait to see some weathering on mr Panther! I agree with Eric, why don’t you enter that in the Kursk GB. I’m also doing a Panther D, lets gang up on those Russkie T-34s!!
Sweet lookin’ build, man. I think the camo is perfect. I think you mentioned that you patterned it after a color plate, and it looks dead-on. Looking forward to seeing the finished pics!
[chris[:D]-- nice looking ‘D’ so far![tup]-- but, no mater how many panthers or marders you may build, our su 152s, t-34s,and obsolete kv-1s will ultimately crush the hun offensive-- j/k dude[#toast]–I gotta DML ‘G’ I have to start on someday my self-- I am currently just ‘hooked’ on the Russian stuff-- I like the camo-- a little sparce, but I like it-- gonna look awsome— tread[8D]
Looks good to me! I can see where you added the camo lines, but it doesn’t look crowded or anything. One thing - I didn’t notice this before, but I think I’m seein’ a seam right down the middle of your cleaning rod tube. Might wanna check that out…
that is in fact a line and a little too much scraping on the cleaning rod tube jthurston. i got a little bit carried away on that one. still don’t know how i could un-do it though.
…nice job…one thing I just now noticed is the seam that runs right through the middle of the drum cupola…that should be filled and sanded; not sure why DML didn’t mold that part so that seam was not in such a bad spot…I had to deal with it on my D model…
Good place for a little damage, or for a log or something to be roped on. Cammo net? See, this is why I don’t do aircraft; can’t cover up stuff with other stuff. [swg]
