Panel Lines and door mouldings

I am sure this is a repeat question but in terms of technique my search didn’t come with much. How does one cleanly black out the mouldings around a car door? And how does one do nice pinpoint panel lines? I just started the Tamiya Sogo Kiebi Porsche 911 and I am dreading this particular part of of the project. I’ve done mouldings in chrome foil to good effect before but this model simply has flat black lines and mouldings. Any thoughts? By the way I’ve never built a “display” kit before. Kind of weird to work on a model without an engine!

HEY,
Ive heard of painting the panel lines black before the final color coat, and it shows up nice after the clear coats. Not sure though ive never tried it.

for the panel lines you could just use a wash of black or darkened(sp?) version of whatever color you plan on painting the body. You could also you a Gundam Marker

Mouldings around a car door ,do you mean the window rubbers? If so this site has a tutorial on how to do that

HEY,
Check out those tutorials, they are great. My compliments to whoever did them.

I use BareMetal foil black chrome. It’s the easiest way I’ve found.

Paul.

use a wash. it is a thinned down acyylic paint. get a semi gloss acylic. mix it if 5 part water, 1 part paint, and 2 part liquid soap (Dawn, exc…) paint it in the panels and let it dry. then whipe over the panel. the wash will stay in the line, the other will whipe off. the soap inables it to lift of when dry. you may have to experiment a bit (more soap if not lifting up. exc…) hope this helps.

As far as those Gundam Markers, where can I get some of those??

HEY,
Ive also heard about using a very fine tip mechanical pencil to to the panel line.

Randy

Michaels crafts stores has them or something similar. Don’t know where you are, so I hope this helps.
