Paints

I have just purchased my first Tamiya kit and I only have Humbrol paints, I was wondering if It would be better to buy the paints required in the Humbrol conversion since I already have a few of the paints needed or If I should just buy the whole lot in Tamiya paints. I have never sprayed acyrilcs and dont know how well they perform any feedback would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I have used both the Humbrol and Tamyia paints and am quite happy with the results from both. I find the Tamyia paints are good for airbrushing but it does take time to be able to acheive a good result when hand brushing.

If you are set up at this time to use Humbrol and are happy with them I would keep using them and maybee experiment with the Tamyia Acyrilcs till you gain experience with them.

i use tamiya acrylic exclusively and thier brand of thinner and have never had the first minutes trouble with them. they smell very sweet too, almost drinkable. i never get high from the fumes. youll love them if you make the switch my friend.

Couple of minus with the Tamiya acrylics:

1 They take some skill to brush paint on larger areas.

2 They have a limited color range.

They are great for spraying for sure. You can also use your Humbrols together with the Tamiya. Just don’t mix them together. Make sure one is cured before covering with the other one.
