Paints for Type 90 and Leopard 2 A6

I have problem with Tamiya and have no problem with Humbrol, Model Masters and Polly. I would try Vallejo, if necessary. Since, local hobby stores sell only these four popular brands. I need to know what brand and color are perfect for Type 90 (light brown and green version as we can see in some pictures (I don’t want dark brown and dark green version)) and Leopard 2 A6 (3 color NATO scheme)? I would mail-order other brands like Life Color, etc, if they’re the right color. I only want right colors. My eyes kept playing tricks on me as I was studying paint chips and different color on each picture. Anyone help? I would appreciate. Thanks.

Problems with Tamiya?!

If you’re looking for NATO 3-color for the Leopard 2, you can’t go wrong with their exact matches–Tamiya’s, that is. NATO Brown, Green, and Black.

Yes, Tamiya’s NATO brown, green, and black can’t go wrong, but you forget that I have problem with Tamiya. I also have problem with Gunze. I can’t paint right with Tamiya and Gunze. I have no problem with Humbrol, Model Masters, and Polly. I don’t know about Life Color and Vallejo, but I would try. Thank you, though.

What problems are you having with Tamiya?

It dries quickly. As you keep on brushing, it causes “roll up” or broken thin coat. I was just given a tip on how to use it…mix it with a bit of thinner, but I still prefer Humbrol, Polly, or Model Masters. Is it true that 3 color scheme is lighter now? I see pictures of Leopard 2 a6. These colors seem lighter than the colors on Leopard 2 a5. Maybe I’m wrong? If not, I think lighter version look nice.

If you’re brush-painting Tamiya, you will have problems - it does dry too quickly, and leaves brush-marks, even if you add flow enhancer. For airbrushng, however, so long as you use their own-brand thinner, and maybe a few drops of flow enhancer, it’s just fine.

However, if you can’t, or won’t, use Tamiya, here are some Humbrol suggestions. NATO Black is actually a very dark green, so I’d go for a 50/50 mix of Humbrol 33 matt black and 91 Black Green. For NATO Green, Humbrol 102 Army Green and 105 Marine Green are quite close. For NATO Brown, you could do worse than try Humbrol 160 German Camouflage Red Brown.

Neither of the two latter matches are spot on, but they are good enough, especially once you’ve done a judicious amount of shading, highlighting and weathering.

Cheers,

Chris.

Thank you, Chris! I appreciate.
