Painting VW Type 166 Schwimwagen

I picked up a 1/6th scale Schwimwagen for use with action figures. After reading a number of online naratives on re-doing or updating this model I decided to try my hand. I am looking for a little advice on choosing what color to paint it.

Since this is my first attempt at modelling in a number of years and not yet owning an airbrush I thought I stick with a monotone scheme. My problem is finding many original color pictures. Did the Germans paint them Panzer Gray? Did they only use tan in North Africa? or would the yellow-tan be appropriate?

Thank you.

Welcome to the FSM armor forum AKlabunde. I do not know when the Schwimwagen came into service, but any german vehichles/armor pre-1943 was panzer grey. After 1943 germans paint with a camo scheme. Good luck and enjoy the forums.

If your going monotone I probably would choose Dunkelgelb, known as dark-yellow. You could do some masking with silly putty or some other method to do a camoflauge pattern.

Thanks for the information. I picked up a couple cans of Dark Yellow as well as dark olive green and red-brown. I figured I’d at least get down the Dunkelgelb and then decide if I want to try adding a camo pattern.

I will probably wait until my next project to pick up an airbrush. There I am trying to decide between and Aztec or Paaschle. And Single action or Double action.
