I am building a 1/32 scale Pacific Coast Models Folgore and am wondering how best to paint a vertical band on the fuselage. Also on the front of the fuselage. Is it just a matter of trial-and-error with paper and masking tape? Any hints?
I use a rubberband and scootch it around until it’s lined up right…
The best method will be cutting masking tape into very thin strips and masking like that. Then just fill in the gaps. That should do the trick.
The strips of tape is what you need. the wider it is the more it will want to conform to the tapered shape of the fuselage
Use a lazer level to paint the line where you need it on the model, then make some reference marks with a pencil along the lazer line then you can lay the tape along those marks.
Thanks for the suggestions. I’ll try some of these techniques after I finish working on a 1/32 Trumpeteer Wildcat I now have almost completed and can get back to the Folgore.
I’m starting one this summer, my second actually. I want pictures, dont’ talk about it PICTURES!!!
BTW [#welcome] aboard
Yes just eye-ball it until the masking tape looks right.
Is that the Pacific Coast Models 1/32 Folgore? It’s beautiful. Paints? Colors?
The Trumpeter Wildcat is complex and challenging but really rewarding after you see the light at the end of the tunnel. I’ll send some pictures when finished.
No it is the 21st Century Aeromacchi.I painted it overall Tamiya Desert Yellow with neutral gray underside. For the smoke ring cammo,I used a Paasche VL with a #3 Tip to lay down the Tamiya Deep Green.
I,too made the Trumpeter 1/32 Wildcat and it was a great kit with very good fit.Plus I snagged it for 23 bucks at my LHS!
