Hey All,
I am currently working on an old ESCI M48A2 kit. I dont know if this question should be posted here or in the painting area but here goes. I was wondering if someone could please tell me the easiest way to paint camo on tanks. According to my 20 year old directions, it calls for a camo tank. Is this realistic or should I go with another scheme?? Right now the base color of the tank is Faded OD. Keep in mind this is my first model in 20 years [8D] Thanks in advance [:D]

I believe the directions are wrong. It should be overall OD green or dark green. Camo didn’t really come into widespread use till early to mid '70s with the MERDC scheme. M48A2 was used from 1955 to 1959, when the M48A3 replaced it. Check here at Patton-Mania for more info: http://www.patton-mania.com/M48_Patton/m48_patton.html
HeavyArty,
Thanks for the info. Cant say as I am surprised to see that they are wrong!!!

The A2 was used in Vietnam as well as the A3. Those tended to be a dark olive green. The Esci A2 is a nice kit but is only an cosmetic A2. They used the same back deck for each M48 kit they did and the M48A2’s back deck was more humpbacked than the A3 or A5.
A couple of ways to improve the old kit is to use a razor saw to cut a groove down the center of the road wheels to make the one wide wheels look like a pair of wheels.
If you really want to get crazy, buy a small piece of U-shaped channel styrene and cut little slices to add to the track where the center guides would go.
