I have stepped over from the ship and armor forum to ask advice from here as there is probably more experience regarding my problem.
I am building an Airfix 1/72 air sea rescue launch and have got up to the 2 gun canopies. Here is a photo of what I mean
As you can see they are very rounded and the framework very thin. Any advice on masking / painting would be appreciated.
I have read through the forums for similar posts and found some advice but not for such compound curves and thin framework.

I have heard of a liquid called Humbrol Maskol that would suit your needs, and should be readily available in England. Apparently, you just brush it on and let it dry to form a mask. After spraying it peals off easily. Other companies possibly make similar products. I’m afraid I have never used the stuff myself, being a Tamiya masking tape fan, but that would give problems on such a rounded surface. Maybe someone could share some first-hand experience with Maskol?
Another way you could do it is to paint some clear decal film in the colour you want the frame to be and then apply thin strips of it on the framework. This is a good way to do complex frame work like this. I haven’t tried it before but I’ve seen some good results using it.

White glue also makes a good masking agent if you didn’t feel like running out and spending money which could be going towards the purchase of a new kit. LOL! But what I do is take some white glue, add a few drops of water to thin it down. Don’t add a lot! Just enough to make it a wee bit more runny to help it flow into corners and such, and then add two drops of liquid dish soap. That’ll help break the surface tension so the glue doesn’t bead up. Works nicely for me as it peels off easily.

echolmberg, are you suggesting that I paint white glue over the clear sections. I will be painting with an airbrush, will the glue stand up to this??
