Painting disaster, what do I do now?

Sprayed the primer coat on my 1/700 Victory ship hull and left it to dry on the kitchen table, on top of its cardboard box, I mean paint stand. Heard a crash a few minutes later and went out to discover the cat had jumped up on the table, and now my Victory ship and gray primer mixed with carpet fuzz, bits of lint, food particles, grit and of course cat hair, from rolling across the floor.

So now what? Do I somehow remove the entire coat of paint from this resin hull? Try to sand off the worst accumulations? Any suggestions appreciated, and yes, the cat is still alive … for now.

I would suggest stripping off all the paint…

I’ve had things like this happen before, I even had a spider get stuck in my final coat of future one time…

Now I put an upside down fish tank over all my models when they’re drying HA! take that spider!

What’s the best way to do that. I’ve heard of using oven cleaner on a plastic model, but this is a resin kit.

hi mfsob I’ve had the same problem as you just had with my dog, next day passing a garage sale seen a large tupperware container and use that to cover my models after painting and have had no problems. As for stripping paint off resin don’t use brake fluid as a friend found out, he had a total melt down, if for any reason you wish to remove the paint , apply with a paint brush easy off or some other product in a hidden location or use some flash from the kit to see the effects it may have. As for stripping the paint and it’s only in the primer stage, I would resand and reprime other than stripping down the paint

Thanks guys - I opted for sanding/picking off the big blobs with an Xacto blade. Seeing as how I paid $60 for this kit I’m very leery of soaking it ANYTHING to get the paint off! Somehoe I don’t think they’d send me another one if I said, Well, I soaked in caustic chemicals for awhile and came back to a puddle of goo …

Thanks for the help.

mfsob instead of scaping with an Xacto, try also a wooden coffee stick, less chance of damaging the resin beneath the particals. Good Luck and hope to see when completed.
