Yes, dry-brushing always seems to bring out surface details, and it’s a good practice for 1/72 scale. In 1/48, it still adds a lot. Additionally, my preferred method for control panels is to sandwich a thin sheet of clear plastic (such as is used for transparencies in presentations) between to pieces of styrene with holes cut out to represent the dials. On the acetate, I have already printed the dial detail at Kinko’s. Once the acetate is in place, I seal with future floor polish to represent glass.
