I m ready to paint the camo on my sdkfz 184, and i’m wondering, do i free hand it? It seems like theonly way.
should i draw the pattern in pencil or something?
you could do it freehand, but it would look best with an airbrush. However, if your airbrush can’t do fine details, like lines and the such, then I would do it by hand. I draw the pattern in pencil, but make sure you cover it up when you paint it.
i will be air brushing it. i have a paasche h. the model is in 1/72
I’d do it freehand, just take your time and if you have to take a break, do it.
John, an airbrush seems like the way to go. I do all my camo painting with an Aztec and it seems to work for me. I see that you are a reenactor. Me too, I am with the 19th. Va. Co K. We are out of NJ. We have a sister company, Co B out of Charlottsville, Va. G-burg this year?

you could stencil a pattern on there , some do that , I tend to get a pic and freehand it , which works pretty good for me , just use the finest tip you have with rather low pressure like maybe 12lbs you get better control I think , and lube the button mechanism up with oil or grease so it doesn’t stick while being pressed , ,mine does that sometimes .

hey orion32, nice to see another civil War reenactor out there. My unit is the 3rd Confederate (18th Arkansas) Co. E. Were in based central Califorinia so no Gettysburg for us. I do however, inted to make the trip for the 150th annevirsary, with or without my unit.

The Pachaae H will do wonders with properly thinned paint and low pressure. Just work slowly and build up the colors. OR you could use the ol’ silly putty trick! It works well over uneven surfaces. If you leave the edges thick and roll them a bit you can get a feathered edge…
