I lost my instruction sheet for painting the USS Defiant from DS-9 and just recently had the urge to finish this kit after several years on the shelf. Can anyone help me find a copy of the instructions or help me find a copy of the painting details?
Thank you so much… Now I can at least try to paint it correctly. I got about 1/3 of it masked several years ago then moved on to other projects and the urge to finish it struck me yesterday at about 6:00 pm. Hu woulda thought!
You said years ago? What condition is the mask you have on the ship? Sometimes it might go bad and refuse to come off or leave parts of the covering on the surface or take paint off with the tape. You might want to check.
I removed the mask and the previous paint appears to be ok. decals are turning yellow so I may have to replace them, I believe I may just try painting freehand and see how it turns out Airbrushes are nice but in my experience it’s fairly difficult preveting bleeding with so much of the “Aztec” paint style needing masking and, waiting for once surface to dry, masking for another shade, masking etc etc etc.
Just browsing and saw your problem. Whenever I have yellowed decals, I pick the window in the house that gets the most sunlight and tape the decal sheet to it (on the inside of course) and keep a watch on it. Some sheets take a day or two and some may take longer but the sunlight will bleach out the yellowing. I build mostly WWI & WWII planes and my stash contains many OLD kits with yellowed decals. I have saved around 90% of decals that I would otherwise have had to chuck in the trash and “hopefully” find replacements. An extra failsafe is to use a coat of Testors Decal Bonder on those sheets too after the yellow is gone to prevent age cracking. Hope that this helps.

Stay Safe.
PS - Test one of the decals on the sheet you won’t be using on the model to be sure it doesn’t crack out.
Hi, Sorry I didn’t get back to you sooner but I will definitley try the decal trick, BTW I am actuall trying to paint the Defiant freehand so I have given up coffee for the duration…
