Painting a Sd. Kfz 251/1

I what to start building a Bandai 1/48 Sd.Kfz/1 but the directions are in Japanese and I am still learning my German armour colors and theater of operations.

I want to use this in a diorama based in the Eastern Front during the early Spring of 1943. There will be a light dusting of snow. I have 2 Stugs built and want to add the Sd to it.

I use Acrylics so what color/s would I use for the Interior and what colors for the Exterior?

As always I appreciate all the GREAT advice.

1/48

I must ask if this 251 is an “A”, “B”, “C” or “D” model. If it is a “D” model, I’m afraid your Spring 1943 timeline isn’t realistic. I think desert yellow wasn’t in use till summer 43. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

I would paint it panzer grey. Interior and exterior.

The Ausf D entered service in mid 1943, so Dunkelgelb’s the only option if it’s a D. Dunkelgelb began being applied at the factories in Feb. 1943.

Here’s some images that may help you in the right typr of colors.

I used the gass cans and the color type from this model to do my Sd.Kfz 251/17.

I just mix some testors colors till go got close to what I thought was right. now Testors has a paint kit out for just this type of project, Called Camo Coloers. The Amo box nex to the white jar, Image 2 the box open.

Good luck and I can wate to see your build.

Every pic I’ve ever seen of this relatively rare vehicle have it in Panzer Gray.

Doog, are you referencing the Luftwaffe version /17 in White’s post? If so they also saw service in Tunisia in a sand/green scheme with the Hermann Goring Division. The Luftwaffe /17 was built on an Ausf C chassis though, not a D.

He’s right there is a Green one I just don’t like any German Halftrack in green but that’s me. Here’s an image of that type from Missing-lynx.

Well “look-E” there my 200th post [party][8-][D)][#toast]
