Paint Shaker

The latest issue of ‘Woodsmith’ magazine had the following tip for shaking up small bottles of hobby paint …

Fasten the bottle to a jig saw blade with duct tape (the handyman’s secret weapon), lay the saw on its’ side, and give 'er!

Just make sure you have enough clearance between the bottle and the shoe of the saw so they don’t smack together!

Sounds dangerous and not real smart.

Can’t be dangerous I’m sure I saw it on Red Green. Sounds like we are cut from the same mold “Not hadsom so we’re Handy”. I still have all 8and a half fingers.

How bout an alternative from one of the guys in my local club…

He went to the ‘dollar store’ and bough a cheap little hand-held fan. It has two AA batteries in it and spins like crazy. He just removed the fan blades and attached a length of sprue (or tubing of some sort) with a ‘hook’ on the end. Voila! instant paint stirrer…

If it’s too fast (you’ll know if you have considerably less paint in the jar once you stop stirring…), just remove one of the batteries and short the connection to work on one battery.

Cheap, quick, quite, small, safe…

HEY,
I just put a couple of BB’s in the jar and it works just like a rattle can.

Randy

Yeah Dave, ask me how I know to leave the clearance between the bottle and shoe, eh?
I thought it was kind of a funky suggestion when I first saw (no pun intended) it as well, but Woodsmith is a reputable mag and after my little test I discovered it works real good.

Keep yer stick on the ice!
Bruce

Yea I’ve seen that idea in a few woodworking mags over the years under “ReadersTips”.
Never tried it myself, either out of duct tack or hadn’t reatached the cord from the last “Brain wave” I or my son had the last time I used the saw.
