I was just wondering if anyone out there had any plans for constructing a paint rack, or of a good cheap one online.
Thanks!
I’ve been considering making a “spice rack” type configuration for holding paint, but have been a bit too lazy to start making plans for it. But that’s about the best idea I could think of for a rack.
When Aeromaster got out of the paint business a few years ago, the owner of the LHS asked if I could use the display rack, which otherwise he was going to scrap. Jumped on that one & it sure has helped keeping paints organizesd.
Somebody should write a letter to testors, and tell them that they should sell their paint racks like in the hobby shops.
Here’s Mine
mattfixit14813, that’s very nice! I was thinking about making something like that, doesn’t seem like it’d be too difficult to do. But that size is just huge, and I dont have that much real estate on my wall. But at least you’ve given me an idea. I think if I made something like that, but sectioned it, I could make a cube structure, then mount it on a dowel and bearing to have it rotate. Hmmm, too many things to add to the ‘to do list’ [:)]
I have close to 100 paint jars of Tamiya and Gunze (i got a thing for paint[8)])
Used to take a while to find the colour I was after , so I made my own rotating rack from 9mm thick Medium Density Fibreboard.
I have 9 trays, each one is around 9 inches in diameter, in which I bored a recess so each jar had a little hollow to sit in.
All 9 trays are stacked on top of each other, held apart by 3 dowels giving me 3 inches of height between each tray.
On the base is a ball bearing ass’y I stole from a Lazy Susan I picked up at a lawn sale for 20 cents.
Total cost $15
Haven’t found anything cheaper that will hold the same amount of paint.
Mine’s hinged to allow access to the rack of Kits behind it!!!
I built a “spice rack” type out of 1 x 2 's and a scrap of 1/8" hardboard. Cost me less than $ 10.
I know a lot of figure painters use these:
A little expensive for what it is, but many people swear by them.

zokissima,
Thay have shown you some great ideas for home projects[bow][bow] I might even plagerize one of them[swg][(-D] If you decide to purchase one look at greatmodels.com and do a search for paint racks and they have a couple for $20 each[:)]
Good luck whatever you decide[:D]

Personally, I just have a shelf above my table that I use…works pretty good so far. [:D]
Zokissima, came across a trick from my friend who is into water colour painting, he uses oasis’ the type you can soak in water and stick flowers into, as in flower arranging,
He uses little jars of colour, and pushes them into the foam, and keeps them in cigar boxes scrounged from the local tobacconist, needless to say, I have taken up the same, labelled the boxes with a dymo and colour groups eg Luftwaffe Armour,RAF USAF etc,
the boxes are free(thankfully) and the oasis’ cost about $2-$4each dependant on size, just an idea.
