Could you please help me find the right paint consistency for brush-painting 1:72nd scale figures? Help!

I airbrush a coat of primer on my figures (1/72 or 1/48) before I brush paint them. This allows lighter/thinner coats of paint to adhere and cover well. Thusly no paint gums up the fine details on the figures.
